Samuel W. "Sam" Adams, 80, of Springfield died Monday, April 18, 2005, at his home.
He was born July 10, 1924, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of Joe W. and Viola L. Turner Adams. He married Donna Petro in 1970.
Mr. Adams was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving from 1943-45. He received the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with a silver battle star, a good conduct medal and World War II victory medal. He owned and operated Hi-De-Ho Tavern.
He was a member of St. John's AME Church, VFW Post 755, American Legion 809 and AMVETS Post 256.
Survivors: wife, Donna; daughter; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister.
Services: St. John's AME Church, the Rev. Sammy L. Hooks officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery.
