"The death of George Arthur Basinger, a life-long and highly respected resident of Cooperstown, occurred Friday morning of last week, at his home on Chestnut street, where he had lived alone since the passing of his parents. Death came very unexpectedly as the result of a heart attack.

Mr. Basinger who was descended on the paternal side from Revolutionary stock, was the son of Willy Sefrenes and Charlotte Annie (May) Basinger and was born in Cooperstown June 7, 1887. He attended the Cooperstown High school and the Buffalo College of Pharmacy and was employed in the drug stores of Brazee & Boden, H. L. Brazee, Church & Scott, and by the grocery firm of Beattie & Doubleday, in this village.

He enlisted in the United States Regular Army April 12, 1918, at Fort Niagara and served overseas for over a year in the Medical department of the 66th Regiment, Transportation corps. He was honorably discharged from service at Camp Upton, N. Y., July 6, 1919 ...

In 1908 he was united in marriage with Miss Jean Roy Mathieson, whose death occurred in 1914. Surviving are two brothers, Harold Tudor Basinger of Cooperstown and Percy W. Basinger of New York City, together with several nephews and nieces ..."
