Stanley P. Gura

MERIDEN - Stanley (Stas`) P. Gura, 68, of Colchester and Spring Hill, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan 8, 2004 at the Liberty Specialty Care Center in Colchester with his children by his side.

Born July 18, 1935 in Meriden, he was a son of the late Stanley and Sophie (Grodski) Gura. Early on Mr. Gura worked in Los Alamos, New Mexico then for the New England Machine and Tool Co. in New Britain and finally as a Corrections Officer in Hernando County, Fla., until his retirement in Jan. 1998. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus while in New Mexico and in his spare time enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a good friend and neighbor, but most importantly as a loving father to his children and friend to the kids on Diamond Hill.

Survivors include five children, Stanley Gura III of Meriden, Daniel Gura of Colchester, Mary Emerling of Colchester, Jo Anne Gura of Meriden and Dianne Levy of Plainville, three step daughters, Christine, Tracy and Shannon; nine grandchildren; his goldmother Helen Grodski of Meriden; a brother, Michael Gura of Bristol; four sisters, Maryann Hackbarth of Meriden, Kathryn Beary of Unionville, Roxanne Moreau of Meriden and Jacqueline Alferman of New Jersey; and numerous extended family members and friends.

A memorial liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, directly at St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St., Meriden. Burial will be private in the Linwood Cemetery , Colchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude`s Children`s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude`s Place, Memphis, Tenn 39105. Care of arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
