Fred Boatwright, 78, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Kurtiss Spidel, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Boatwright was born March 1, 1930, in Phillips to Walter C. and Montzella Boatwright. He graduated from College High in Bartlesville, Okla., and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean conflict. He then earned his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Oklahoma A&M. Fred married Patricia Reynolds on July 2, 1954, in Roswell, N.M. He had been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers - IEEE, and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He retired from Southwestern Public Service as a principal engineer in communications. He also was a charter member of Kingswood United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Pat; his father, Walter C. Boatwright of Amarillo; a son, James Boatwright and wife Joyce of Dallas; a daughter, Kathie Sanderson and husband John of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Caleb and wife Alicia, Tyson and wife Alex, Kristin, Scott and Regan; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline Sanderson and Anika Sanderson.

The family suggests memorials be to Meals on Wheels, 219 W. Seventh Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101; or a favorite charity.
