The son of Jonathan & Eunice (Andrew) Law, he served in the Revolutionary War in Milford, Conn. He assisted by serving as one of a committee of suppliers for soldier's families for the town of Milford, receiving pay for his service.

Benedict was a surveyor of highways in 1778 & in the committee to care for the soldier's families in 1783.

He married Sarah Bryan on Jan 4, 1770 in Milford and they were the parents of at least ten children.
He married second, Henrietta Gibbs on Dec 24, 1787 in MIlford and they were the parents of at least seven children.
