Stella was married to Jesse Edwards James on January 24, 1900 at Kansas City, Missouri. They were the parents to four daughters, Lucille Martha, Josephine Frances, Jesse Estelle and Ethel Rose James.
They moved out to Los Angeles, California from Kansas City, Missouri in the fall of 1926.
