Stephen Daniel Collins was born in Wellington, Kansas on December 20, 1976. He was the third son of Jimmy Dean Collins and Linda Lou (Blackwell) Collins. Following Jimmy and Linda's divorce, Danny was legally adopted in 1980 by Duane E. Smith, Sr. and his last name was legally changed to Smith. Due to his physical disabilities and needs, Danny lived most of his life at Winfield State Hospital. Danny passed away at the age of 12 on January 13, 1989 due to pneumonia-related complications.
