George A. "Bud" Gauntt, 58, of Concord, passed peacefully on Thursday, September 4th at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center while surrounded by family and close friends. Although he survived non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, he succumbed to side effects of the treatment.

Born on September 10, 1949, Bud was a life-long resident of Concord and son of the late George B. Gauntt and Louise A. (Quimby) Gauntt of Concord. He attended Concord schools, as well as the NH Technical Institute in Manchester.

Bud was the owner of Mid-State Contracting Services in Concord. Prior to that, he was employed for several years as a project manager with Cobb Hill Construction in Concord. Throughout his many years in the construction business, Bud kept pace with an ever-changing field by attending product and business seminars and conferences in order to offer his clients the latest in products and techniques. Some of his major renovations received Sales and Marketing Awards for excellence.

He had a love of motorcycles in his younger days and built several. Most recently he and his son Nathan built a custom motorcycle that won "Best in Class" at the Boston World of Wheels in 2006; 2nd place "Best in Class" at the 2007 Northeast Motorcycle Expo in Boston; and "Best of Show" & "People's Choice" awards from the Concord Kiwanis Club in 2007. The motorcycle and its history were featured in Easy Riders and Iron Works magazines in 2007.

Bud was always busy - and Chris, his wife, always boasted Bud could do anything. He loved his homes in Florida and Concord and it was obvious by the constant upgrades in landscaping and renovations that he enjoyed so much. In the warm weather, any passer-by would be certain to see Bud happily attending to his flowers or trees, his lawn, his yard, and all his outdoor work.

When you could get him to break away from work, he liked to go fishing with his son Ben and his closest friend Jim. Many great stories came from these trips to Lake Ontario NY, Sanibel Island and the Florida Keys, which Chris could never understand . . . and never wanted to! He and Chris loved to take long scenic rides on his Harley Davidson throughout northern New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as annual vacations to Sanibel Island - truly their favorite times. When he did sit still, he was an avid reader. He favored Stephen King novels and read every book written by him, as well as many others.

He was an exceptional Dad, son, and Papa to his beloved granddaughter Tiana, who will greatly miss her Papa and trips to Florida with him and Nana. He has truly left a gaping hole in the lives and hearts of those he loved and who loved him. He made us laugh so much. We love you Bud, and we'll see you later.

He leaves his wife of 39 years, Christine (Bouchard) Gauntt of Concord; son Nathan and his wife Charilyn (Hanson) Gauntt of Pembroke; son Benjamin, Ben's daughter Tiana H.M. Gauntt, and his fiancé, Colleen Ekholm, all of Concord; his mother Louise A. Jobin of Concord; sisters Mary Lou Voghel of Concord, Sharon Eubank and her husband Greg of De Land Fl., Tracie Gauntt and Kelley and J. Nault of Concord; longtime friend James "PW" Hayes and his wife Deb of Canterbury; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Bud was pre-deceased by his father, George B. Gauntt, and brother Clyde B. Gauntt.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10th at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 South Main St. in Concord. A reception will follow at the parish hall.
