Fairview Man Loses Life when Truck Overturns

A Fairview man, Ralph A. Jensen, 47, was killed Thursday morning, Feb 8 at about 8:15 a.m. when his heavily loaded two-ton truck ran off the Sullivan dugway near the summit of the Geneva-Montpelier pass on Highway O.S.89.
Mr Jensen was alone in the truck, driving toward Montpelier. the truck had passed the first curve on the west side of the summit,but trailed to take the second curve and continued off the dugway and down the steep incline according to a motorist, Sam Hart, who was following and noticed the truck had disappeared.
The victim was trapped in the wreckage and lived but a short while it was reported by Deputy Sheriff Bernard Wilkes, who investigated the accident.
Funeral services were held in the Fairview Ward LDS Chapel Monday, Feb 12 at 12 noon conducted by Bp. E. Morrell Allred with a large congregation in attendance. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.
Ralph Alvoyd Jensen was born Sept 7, 1914 at Fairview, Wyo. to Ralph LeRoy Jensen and Margaret Glennie Stones. He was preceded in death by two brothers, both of whom died as infants. Ralph was just a young boy when his brothers died. When he was three years old his parents went to the temple and had the three boys sealed to them.
Ralph always loved children and was glad when two sisters Hazel and Wanda, were born into the family. He has enjoyed his nieces and nephews, and always made friends with children and adults whereever he was.
Ralph got his schooling in the Bear River and garfield, Utah and Fairview Wyo. schools. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at willard, Utah Sept 30, 1922. He advanced in the priesthood was ordained an elder and received his endowments in the Salt Lake Temple Nov 27, 1946 when his sister Wanda and Donal J. Stevens were married.
When a young man Ralph joined the Civilian Conservation corps on Aug 18, 1935, and with 10 other young fellows from star Valley was stationed at Centennial Wyo.
He had been employed by the Star Valley Feed Company for the past 19 years except for a two year interval 17 years ago,when he worked at Big Piney, Wyo. For the last five years he has managed a branch feed store in Evanston two days a week along with his job aws truck driver.
Ralph never married, but has always been devoted tohis parents, his sisters and their families. He was always kind to all animals, and especially enjoyed horses and dogs. His hobbies were listening to phonograph records and photography. He made friends easily wherever he went in his travels. He had outstanding qualities of perseverance and dependability. His employers and parents noted that he always made sure that the job he was sent to do was finsihed before he left it.
He is reported to always have observed the Word of Wisdom, was always honest in his dealings with his fellow men.
He is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs LeRoy Jensen Fairview; two sisters, Mrs Louis L (Hazel) Blood, Kaysville Utah and Mrs Donal J. (Wanda) Stevens, Clearfield Utah; five nephews and six nieces.
