GREELEY, Melvin L. Prickett, 81, of Greeley died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Joseph A. Hannappel will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Greeley with graveside military honors by
American Legion Post 186 of Greeley.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Prickett was born on Nov. 15, 1926, on the family farm in Wheeler County, near Spalding to Frank and Ruby (Brown) Prickett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Prickett, on Dec. 19, 2002.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sons, Gary Prickett of Omaha and Bob Prickett of Chapman; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cathy and Mick Foster and Becky Prickett, all of Greeley; and a sister, Prudie Bernt of Spalding.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Melvin grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Wheeler County and high school in Primrose. He served in the United States Army from June 13, 1945 to Feb. 3, 1947.
He was united in marriage to Dolores Gilroy on April 13, 1948, at Spalding. The couple lived and farmed in Wheeler County until 1957, when they moved to a farm southwest of Greeley. After retiring from farming, he worked as a janitor and truck driver. He enjoyed horses, playing cards and antique cars and he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Theron, Delbert and Frank; and four sisters, Bernice, Delores, Eunice and Eva.
