Captain William T. Briggs, retired sea captain, died at 4:05 Friday morning at the family residence, 338 East William street. His age was seventy-five years, seven months and twelve days. His death was due to a complication of diseases. He had been in poor health since last fall.
Captain Briggs and wife are both natives of Providence, R. I. Mrs. Briggs came to Decatur when she was four years old, and here she and Captain Briggs were married many years ago. They moved to Chicago and lived there for thirty-four years, going from there to Pensacola, Fla. where they conducted a hotel for a number of years. They have lived in Decatur since 1913.
Captain Briggs is survived by his wife and one daughter. Mrs. Charles A Winter of Great Neck, Long Island, N. Y. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary F. Barber of Decatur, and a niece, Mrs. Mary F. Knowles of Decatur. The body was removed to the Dawson & Co. undertaking establishment and prepared for burial.
