Found Dead After Fire In His Home

A 92-year-old Liberty Township man died Friday, apparently of a heart seizure with smoke inhalation as a contributing factor, County Coroner Leonard Wetmore reported today.

The body of Dallas Elijah Phares, Robbins Road, a former Liberty trustee, was found in the bedroom of his home. The mattress of Phares' bed was completely burned but the fire had been extinguished, apparently by Phares.

Coroner Wetmore said that Phares died about 10 a.m. Body was discovered by Marvin Phares, a nephew.

Phares was born in Liberty Township, Feb. 10, 1878, the son of Adam P. and Laura (Yost) Phares. He is survived by a number of nephews.

A carpenter by trade, Phares was Liberty Township trustee from 1914-1918.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bartholomew Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Johnson, Liberty Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery, Liberty Township. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
