David Harrison Black, of Nineveh, aged 61 years, and one of the well known oil men of this section of the state, died this morning at 1 o'clock in the Waynesburg hospital. Mr. Black came to the Waynesburg hospital October 27,1926 for an operation. He seemed to be getting along nicely and it was thought he would be able to leave the hospital in a few days. On Thursday of last week intestinal influenza developed and he continued to grow worse until the end came this morning.

Mr. Black was born in Clarion County, April 21, 1865, a son of the late William Farmer Black and Lucinda McKissick Black.

He went to work in the oil fields early in life and soon became a contractor and for about 10 years was located near Wallace, W. Va. In 1903 he moved to Nineveh and accepted a position as superintendent of production with the South Penn Oil company which position he held at the time of his death. In the 23 years he was with the South Penn Company he never took a day's vacation and the first day he was away from his job was when he came to Waynesburg hospital for his operation. Mr. Black was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.-Waynesburg Republican 11/26/1926

Mr. Black was married to Miss Matilda Sophia Wilds,October 18, 1888 by Andrew C. Eakins, Pastor M. E. Church, Jamestown, Chautauqua Co., NY, whose death occurred Dec. 21,1923. To this union were born eight children of whom the following survive: Mrs. Mary (John B.) Carter, Nineveh; Mrs. Myrtle (M. Glenn) Cathers, Nineveh; Samuel Albert Black, Casper, Wyoming; Webster Shaffer Black, at home; Mrs. Gladys (David) Davidson, Daytona Beach, Florida; Mrs.Matilda (F. L.} Mulvaney, Waynesburg, and David Harrison Black, Jr. of Nineveh. The following brothers, also survive: John Henry Black, San Angelo, Texas; Samuel Porter Black, Apple Grove, W. Va.; Frank Lemuel Black, Waynesburg: Marion Loren Black, New Martinsville, W. Va.; Edward Richard Black, East Waynesburg, and William Albert Black, Cadiz, Ohio.
