DOWAGIAC - Edna C. True, 79. Edna's life began on June 10, 1929 in Corning, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert R. and Frieda Opal (Whitley) Neal.
She was united in marriage to Lester True on November 1, 1947 on the old Bloom Farm off Dailey Road in Dowagiac. Edna worked for Rudy Manufacturing for a short time before raising her family. She worked as a nurse's aid at the Dowagiac Nursing Home and for many years at Lee Memorial Hospital. She was a long time volunteer at Lee Memorial, as well. Edna was an artist and a crafter. She made her daughters' wedding dresses, sewed quilts and was just very creative. She loved to sing and even tap dance and she was a devoted fan of the Dowagiac Union High School Marching Band. She traveled with the band to Washington DC, Orlando and to the Kentucky Derby. Edna was an adored friend to everyone she knew and she never forgot to send a birthday or special card to any of her friends. Edna loved to travel with her many girlfriends. She was truly dedicated and adoring of her husband Lester and him to her.
Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edna's loving family includes her son, Ed (Connie) True of Dowagiac; daughters, Toy (Harry) Little of Sister Lakes, and Tanya (Wesley) Lillie of Dowagiac; seven grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; sisters, Anna Mae, Geneva and Catherine, all of Arkansas; sister, Ruth of Phoenix; and brother, Bobby of Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Edna passed away peacefully on September 18, 2008, at Caretel Inns- Bristol House in St. Joseph. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents; her stepmother, Eva Neal; and stepfather, Stanley Jesenski; sister, Opal; and brother, Johnny.
Her family will gather with friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where her tribute service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. led by Chaplain Scott Labbe of Lakeland Hospice. She will be laid to rest in Sumnerville Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Lakeland Hospice, Lee Memorial Foundation or to the Dowagiac Band Boosters.
