Nurse Finds Body in Room
Filled by Gas---Son Says
Death was Accident
Mrs. Clara S. Teague, 76, resident of
Chattanooga since 1886, was found
dead in a gas-filled hotel room in Mi-
ami, Fla., last night, according to an
Associated Press dispatch.
Mrs. Teague's nurse, Mrs. M. B.
Wells, of New Jersey, found the body
about 10 o'clock. She told investiga-
tors that Mrs. Teague suffered from
arthritis and had been depressed for
several days.
Mrs. Teague's son, Landon C.
Teague, who resides at the Read house
in Chattanooga and is secretary to W.
A. Sadd, retired banker, stated that
his telephone conversation with the
manager of his mother's hotel con-
vinced him that her death was acci-
dental.
Mrs. Teague's body was found in a
chair, wrapped in a heavy blanket, he
said. She was in the habit of turn-
ing on the gas range in her hotel
apartment on chilly evenings, and her
son said that she undoubtedly was
the victim of an accident.
"Only yesterday afternoon," he
said "mother cashed a $100 bill at the
hotel desk, telling the manager she
needed some money with which to pay
a grocery bill. She left no note. I had
a letter from her Sunday in a cheer-
ful vein."
Mrs. Teague came to Chattanooga
from Ohio, and lived here until last
August, when she went to Florida. In
1932, she broke her hip and never
fully recovered her strength. She was
the widow of Moses D. Teague, a for-
mer employee of the Nashville, Chat-
tanooga & St. Louis railway, who died
more than forty years ago.
Mrs. Teague's survivors are her son,
Landon, of Chattanooga, and another
son by her first marriage, Bert R.
Darrow, of Birmingham. Both sons
are leaving for Miami this morning.
Mrs. Teague's funeral will be arranged
in accordance with whatever instruc-
ions she may have left, Mr. Teague
said.
