Robert George Brown was the son of Barbara Bell (1834-1913) and Frances Brown (1846-Bef. 1880). He attended Girard College in Pennsylvania.

He married Susanna Anna "Annie" Hillard (1868-1951) on September 28, 1892 in Pennsylvania.
Children:
• Sylvan Earl 'Stuart' (1893-1965)

They lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from the time they were married until 1903 when the family moved west to San Francisco, California. They observed and survived the San Francisco earthquake and resulting fire of 1906.

Robert George Brown was struck and killed by an automobile while walking in San Francisco, California on New Years Day.
