Funeral services for Mr. Carl "Pete" Barton, 80, of Carthage were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1993 at Jimerson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Burnaman officiated. Interment followed in Jimerson's Restland Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Barton died Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.

Born on Feb. 26, 1913 in Forest Hill, La., he was the son of James Madison and Julia Ann Stokes Barton. Mr. Barton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage and had been a resident of Carthage since 1962 moving here from Kansas City, Texas. He retired from United Gas in 1977 where he served as superintendent. Mr. Barton was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Carthage Noon Lion's Club.

Mr. Barton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lila Barton of Carthage; one son, Carl A. Barton of Longview; one daughter, Ann Payne of Weston, Texas; five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jean Adams, H.D. Biggers, Maurice Goolsby, Barry Hoffpauir, John Allen Mills and Rex Taylor.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bo Harmon, Hubert Hill, George Moore and Pete Williams.
