Mrs. Dora Dezendorf Succumbs Here
Mrs. Dora Dezendorf, aged 76, died at the Natchitoches Hospital Sunday morning, December 29, about 6 a.m., following an operation. Funeral services under the direction of Blanchard's Funeral Home, were held Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the first Methodist Church, where the deceased had been a devout member for many years.
Rev. D. W. Poole, pastor of the church, and Rev. D. B. Raulins, of Sulphur, former pastor of the church, conducted services at the church and the Eastern Star was in charge of the graveside service.
Pallbearers were: Lonnie Scarborough, A. J. Hargis, M. A. Cheeves, A. C. Massingill, Charlie Haight and Napoleon Aulds.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H. E. Beagle, Alexandria, four sons, J. E. Dezendorf, Houston, Texas, Robert Dezendorf and Gussie Dezendorf, Alexandria, and Bill Dezendorf, Natchitoches; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Dezendorf, the former Mary Sidora Thomasee, was born July 28, 1870, and was reared in Alexandria. She married Edward Dezendorf in 1892, and to this union nine children were born. They moved to Natchitoches at the time of their marriage, and since then made their home here. "Dezzie," as she was lovingly known to all the neighbors, lived in the Dezendorf home at 306 New Second street for the past 50 years, where she reared her children and a granddaughter, Miss Mary Beth Kelley, whose mother, the former Beth Dezendorf, died at her birth.
Her life was touched by many sorrows, having lost two grown daughters and a young son. She accepted the joys and sorrows that life brought with deep Christian resignation and faith, and was always ready and willing to help her many friends and relatives in their times of sorrow or need.
Last year the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the First Methodist Church honored her with a life membership for faithful service.
A devoted mother, a kind and sincere friend, Mrs. Dezendorf will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.
Among those form out-of-town who came here to attend the funeral of Mrs. Dora Dezendorf on Monday were Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Prothro, Jackson, Tenn.; Mrs. Herbert Lax, Covington; Mrs. Alice Beagle, Orange, Texas; Messrs. A. S. and N. D. Dezendorf (her nephews), Baton Rouge; Mrs. Roy Terry and daughter, Jaquelyn, Mrs. Miller Simms, Miller Simms, Jr., and David Cornell, all of Shreveport; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Campo and daughter, Carolyn, Alexandria; Rev. and Mrs. D. B. Rawlins, Sulphur.
