"SHORTY" WOMBLE REPORTED KILLED IN AC TION JULY 27

Official notice from the adjutant-general's office, Washington, of the death in France of John J. Womble, 28 years of age, formerly of North Chattanooga, was received yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Womble, 300 Snow street.
Private Womble was killed in action July 27. He enlisted in the summer of 1917. He was familiarly known as "Shorty", and followed the occupation of a motion picture machine operator.
He was well-known to members of the national guard, as he frequented the Armory, where his father has been custodian for a number of years.
