Mattie was born April 11, 1923, in Danville, Ark., to Henry Grady Tidwell and Viva Lee Taylor. She belonged to the Roswell Garden Club, and enjoyed taking care of the roses at the Roswell Museum, playing the piano, arts and crafts and her grandchildren. She moved to Carlsbad and pioneered the land around Otis with her family in 1923.
Mattie is survived by her three sons, Edward Lee Lawson and his wife Jessica of Roswell, Don Lawson and his wife Beverly of Hobbs, and John Henry Lawson and his wife Paula of Humble, Texas; one daughter; Patricia Ann Williams and her husband Tom of Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Marion Lawson; one brother, Pershing York Tidwell, and one sister, Ina Lee Denny.
