Robert William Stewart
Another pioneer answered the summons of the death angel at an early hour of Saturday morning at March 25.
Robert William Stewart, who had been some weeks with his daughter Mrs. Racobs here in Glenwood passed away at the time above mentioned following a few weeks of severe illness.
The following facts of his life have been furnished: Robert William Stewart was born in Ohio March 10, 1840.
He was married to Sarah Catherine Richardson in Wabash, Wabash Co, Ind. in 1861. They moved to Iowa in 1886 stopping at Malvern in the fall, then to Thurman for the winter. In the spring they moved onto the James Michael Walt farm. Since that time their home has been in and around Glenwood.
His wife died about 28 years ago leaving Mr. Stewart alone with three young children to raise. He kept the home together until the children were all married and homes of their own but one, Sherman the youngest child.
For the past thirteen years he has made his home with his children.
His health has been failing the past two years and for the two months his hold on life has been uncertain until Saturday morning March 25. His spirit left it's earthly tabernacle at the age of 82 years and 15 days.
He leaves ten living children. Three passed away in the early years of their lives. The living children are: John Stewart, Malvern; Jennie Slack, Omaha; Frank Stewart, Idaho; Arthur Stewart, Greenwood, Nebr.; Clara Hubbell, Glenwood; Bert Stewart, Glenwood; Jess Stewart, San Anna, Calif.; Hattie Hunnicutt, Omaha; Alma Racobs, Glenwood and Sherman, Comfrey, Minn. There are 54 living grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mr. Stewart has been a resident of this community for many years and leaves many friends and neighbors who can testify of his life and character.
Funeral Services were conducted from the Waubonsie M. E. Church on Sunday, March 26 by Rev. D. S. Thompson - Glenwood Tribune.
