William Daniel LOVVORN was elected to the Alabama legislature from Randolph County, Alabama in 1872. He and some of his brothers moved to Carroll County, Georgia in 1878 and became a prominent citizen in Bowdon.

William Daniel LOVVORN claimed lands for farming, growing beets and cotton. He established a cotton gin and mill. He educated his children at Bowdon College. A book, The History of Bowdon College, says that Col. Lovvorn gave more than $100,000 to the college in his lifetime and is credited with saving it from bankruptcy at one period.
