Winfield S. Barnes, of Sinking Valley, died at 9:30 p.m. yesterday in the Altoona Veterans Administration Hospital where he was admitted Feb. 2. He was born in Bellfonte Sept. 23, 1891, a son of G. H. and Hannah (Gault) Barnes, and married Marie Eckert in Hagerstown, Md., Jan 17, 1923.

Surviving are his wife, three children, Mrs.Helen Shatto of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Patricia Guard of Chicago and S/Sgt. Franklin D. Of Travis Air Force Base, Calif.; six grandchildren and seven brothers and sisters Edgar K. Of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Catherine Grasser of Greenwood, Mrs. Georgianna Wyerman and Mrs. Alice Leidy of Duncansville, Mrs.Sarah Duck and Francis of Hollidaysburg and Joseph of Lakemont.

Mr. Barnes was engaged in the restaurant business on 11th ave. From 1929 to 1943 and retired at the Tobyhanna Signal Depot in 1959.

He was a veteran of service with the 19th Engineers in World War I overseas.

Friends will be received in the Liegegott Funeral Home, Duncansville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tomorrow and after 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

BARNES - Private services for Winfield S.Barnes of Sinking Valley, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Liebegott Funeral Home, Duncansville, by the Rev. Kent Krause. Interment in Carson Valley Cemetery. Friends will be received in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday and after 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Page 24.

In 1920, age 28 he is living at home as oldest son, with siblings Catharine, Edgar, Samuel, Frances, Robert, Joseph, Georgianna, Alice, Sarah.

In 1942 Registration: Winfield states he was born in 'Belfont' and lists a wife Marie Barnes living in Altoona; he is employed by Glen Martin, Middle River, MD. and resides in Baltimore, MD.

He was 73 at his death Feb. 26, 1965
