He succeeded as Bishop of Cleveland, Ohio 22 Sep 1966. He resigned as Bishop of Cleveland, Ohio 5 Jun 1974 and remained Bishop Emeritus of Cleveland, Ohio until his death. He served as a priest for 50 years, 28 of them as a bishop.
