Born Aug. 21, 1928, in Logansport, he was the son of Fred and Nellie (Lunsford) Cooke.
He was married Oct. 21, 1950, to Barbara Raisor, who died March 27, 1997.
He was a licensed funeral director for 50 years, owning and operating the Harvey-Cooke Funeral Home in Mooresville from 1965 to 1978. From 1978 until his retirement, he worked for several funeral homes.
He was a 1946 graduate of Logansport High School and a 1951 graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving from Feb. 15, 1946, until Jan. 16, 1950, including service during the Korean War.
He was a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. 1349, American Legion and the 40 and 8, all of Martinsville. He was past president of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association and the Greater Mooresville Chamber of Commerce, a past lieutenant governor of Optimist International and a charter member and past president of the Mooresville Optimist Club. He lived most of his life in Morgan County.
Survivors include two sons, Mark A. Cooke of Mooresville and Chad D. Cooke of Martinsville; a sister, Barbara Graham of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Joel, Jake, Nicholas and Makayla Cooke.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Ralph, Lawrence and Glen Cooke; and two sisters, Mary Louise Peterson and Joan Rivers.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Neal and Summers Mortuary in Martinsville.
Burial will be in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville. The Martinsville American Legion and VFW Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites.
