Eliza J. Clark was born in Grant County, Indiana, October 23, 1848. In early childhood she came to Iowa with her parents and settled in Osceola, where she spent her girlhood, and where she was married in 1870 to James A. Clark, who had already served three years in the army, fighting for the dear old flag, and also had some experience of that awful place, Andersonville Prison.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark lived on a farm near Woodburn for a year of two, and then removed to York County, Nebraska, where Mr. Clark took a soldier's claim, staying there about two years, then returned to Woodburn where they resided until his death on October 27, 1907. The last year Mrs. Clark has spent visiting among her children, in Colorado, North Dakota, and Nebraska. In the latter state, at the new home she had made made for herself and daughter Margery, the death angel came for her on Saturday, Novermber 25, 1911. One sad feature of this sad experience, is that so early in her widowhood, when just beginning to enjoy the new home in the city of Lincoln with her beloved daughter, she should be called hence, but on the other hand there is light amid the shadows, for she did not leave this mortal life unprepared for the life beyond. Following the example of her husband, who was a faithful member of Woodburn M. E. church for many years, she united with this church, along with her daughters, several years ago, and by her earnest Christian life, endeared herself to her many friends. She leaves as mourners, Mrs. Cora Likens, North Dakota; Margery Clark, Lincoln, Nebraska; Hal W., Walton, Nebraska; Lena Galloway, Walton, Nebraska; two brothers, John Wiant, Osceola and William, Wiggins, Colorado; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Hart and Mrs. Lucy Baker of Osceola and Mrs. Mattie Smith, San Diego, California."
