Bowne was a former trombonist with Paul Lavelle's "Cities Service-Band of America" which appeared on NBC-Radio. He had also toured the US with Mantovani's orchestra and his early background included being a drummer, doubling on trombone with Loren Patterson's Casino-on-the-Boardwalk orchestra in Asbury Park, NJ.
