William H. H. Llewellyn's father, Joseph Llewellyn was an officer of the 2nd Kansas Cavalry in the Civil War who lived in Iowa.

HIS SON, WAS CORP. MORGAN O'B LLEWELLYN.

President Theodore Roosevelt never lost his affection for his Rough Rider comrades in arms and appointed them to important political offices whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Among his special friends was Colonel William H. H. Llewellyn of Las Cruces, New Mexico, who was close enough to the President to dine with him at the White House, to escort Mrs. Roosevelt to the theater, and who is one of the few Rough Riders Roosevelt mentions in his autobiography.

From 1877 to 1885, Llewellyn was an Indian agent. While in this role, he worked to protect the local Sioux from Doc Middleton.
Doc Middleton was wanted by Wyoming Stock Growers Association and the Union Pacific Railroad, which offered rewards for his capture. Army officer William H. H. Llewellyn, seeking to protect pony herds on the Pine Ridge Reservation,[9] was dispatched to capture him. Llewellyn along with an army from detachment under George Crook lured him to a meeting with a promise of a pardon from the governor. In a melee, two of Doc's gang were killed and a lawman named Hazen was wounded [10] but Middleton was captured and was taken to Cheyenne, Wyoming where he was convicted of Grand larceny and served a prison sentence from September 18, 1879, and released on June 18, 1883.

In 1897, Llewellyn was Speaker of the House of Representatives of the New Mexico Territory. He was again a member of the House of Representatives from 1901 to 1903. From 1905 to 1907, he was U.S. Attorney of the territory, having been appointed by Theodore Roosevelt. During this same time, Roosevelt appointed Llewellyn's son Morgan to be Surveyor General of the New Mexico Territory. After the territory achieved statehood, Llewellyn was a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives in 1912.

Additionally, Llewellyn was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1884, 1896 and 1904.
