MRS. MOSES WALTERS DIED SATURDAY AT ADVANCED AGE The Mother of Eighteen Children, She Lived a Life of Service – Husband and Nine Children Survive Mrs. Moses Walters died at her home nine miles south of here Saturday morning at 9:30 after an illness of seven weeks. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. L. N. Funderburk, and interment was at Midway.
Seven weeks ago Mrs. Walters sustained a broken hip through a fall, and she had been unable to get up from her bed since. Her injury, together with her infirmity, caused her death. Her husband, the venerable Mr. Moses Walters, has been ill in the same room with her for weeks. At times it was thought his condition was serious, but physicians state that he has improved somewhat, and now has a change of recovery despite his advanced age of 91 years.
Mrs. Walters was born in South Carolina nearly 88 years ago. She and Mr. Walters were married about 60 years ago. To this union sixteen daughters and two sons were born, ten of whom still survive. They are: Mesdames Lem Griffin, Cull Nash of Arkansas, I. F Pyler, J. W. Stewart, John Hancock, W. M. Gay, M.K. Wolfe, H. J. Plyler, Water Crook and W. J. Walters.
The deceased joined the church at an early age, and died a member of the Macedonia Baptist church. Her life, spent in the Christian faith, was one of service to her family and community. Her family occupied most of her thoughts and attention, but she never failed to lend a hand to her friends and neighbors in their time of distress and pain. The large number who attended her funeral was sufficient testimony of this fact.
Daughter of Samuel D. Kennington and Sallie Welsh
