The Holton Recorder, May 22, 1919:
Funeral services for Mary Ella Baker, wife of William Curtis Baker, were held Friday afternoon, May 16, at the Pleasant Grove church, near Netawaka. Mr. and Mrs. Baker formerly lived in Rooks county, where they had come after their marriage in Hamilton, Penn., in January, 1878, to take a homestead. Eight children were born to them, five of whom survive: Mrs. Lillian Larue, Mrs. Bertha Whitcraft, Gladys Baker, R. R. Baker and W. A. Baker. Mrs. Baker was born at Black River Falls, Wisc., August 20, 1861, and moved with her widowed mother to Pennsylvania, when about 12 years old. The aged mother, Mrs. Mary Margaret Brown and the husband, William Curtis Baker, survive. Mrs. Baker was a member of the United Brethren Ash Rock church for many years … Mrs. Baker had been in poor health for several years, but her illness did not become critical until about
three weeks before death came, May 13th.
