I have been told he was a Colonel in the Confederate States Army, but I find no record. Possably honorary rank? There was a Private Aaron Sanders in Co.'A' of the 5th Regiment, North Carolina Senior Reserves. Assuming these where elderly men, and given that Aaron would have been in his 60's during the war, and that members of this unit were mostly prison guards, and he was a Sheriff, maybe this is him.
