In 1885, the daughters of John and America filed for pension benefits for children of veterans and then when America was widowed a second time, she filed a widow's application for pension on July 31, 1897.
The oldest daughter of John and America, Margaret, married James Lumpkins on December 27, 1880. Her younger sister, Martha, died at the age of 23 on November 22, 1887. Her burial location is unknown.
