William BEST, WHO DIED WHEN JET CRASHED IN DETROIT
William and Kathryn Best, formerly of Fulton, and their three children, were killed Sunday in the crash of a Northwest Airlines jet in Detroit, Mich.
William M. Best, 36, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Dexterville, was born in Fulton, Mr. Best resided in Dexterville for most of his early years. He was a 1969 graduate of Hannibal Central High School and a 1973 graduate of Clarkson University in Potsdam. At Clarkson, he earned a degree in industrial distribution.
Mr. Best joined Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors in July 1973.
Mr. Best's mother, Katherine Diak Best, died in 1966. Surviving are his father and stepmother, James S. and Mary S. Best, both of Dexterville; two brothers, James W. and Harold E., both of Fulton; a sister, Joan A. Pontante of Granby; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Best's wife, Kathryn L. Johnston Best, 32, formerly of Fulton, also died in the crash along with their three children, William M. Jr., 5, Hillary K., 3, and Katelyn J., 4 months.
Mrs. Best was a 1972 graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton and she graduated in 1976 from Syracuse University with a degree in liberal arts.
She and her husband were married Sept. 6, 1980. They moved from Thousand Oaks, Calif. to Mesa, Ariz. three years ago.
Mrs. Best was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority at Syracuse University and St. Timothy's Church in Mesa, Ariz.
