He married Angeline "Ann" Jenkins on August 26, 1934.

He was a potato farmer, produce grower (garden vegetables) and also grew oats, wheat & clover. He followed the example of his grandfather, William, and father, Thomas, in raising potatoes and marketing them locally. He started raising potatoes at the age of 10 with a 4-H project and he continued to raise potatoes until he died. He started with only a few potatoes when he was 10 and it grew to 10,000 bushels. 1968 was the last full year he farmed 180 acres of tillable acres which included his own acreage and the acreage of his mother's adjoining farm. In a normal year - part of these potatoes were raised in sand and part in some muck ground. He also raised garden vegetables for the market which he delivered and sold to the grocery stores in Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan. He graduated from Stockbridge High School, Stockbridge, Michigan 1931. Played football and basketball in high school and was Captain of the high school football team. He served on the Jackson County Farm Bureau Board of directors for 6 years and served as Henrietta Township Treasurer for 11 years being elected to Township Board before he was 30. He was also a Henrietta Township Trustee for 10 years, a member of the Munith Lions Club and of the Munith Methodist Church in which he served in capacity of Lay Leader and Member of the Official Board as well as many other positions in the church. He was also president of Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association and a Munith 4-H Club leader for many years. He and Angeline were the parents of 3 daughters.
