Mrs. Banner Columbia "Lummie" Bennett, 97, of 2159 Brims Grove Road, Pinnacle, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, 2003. She was born in Stokes County on Oct. 10, 1905, to the late George Washington Merritt and Mary Boyles Merritt. Mrs. Bennett, a homemaker who prepared three meals a day at her home for more than 75 years, was also an avid quilt maker. She was the widow of the late Ovington Millard Bennett. She is survived by her loving family, two daughters and a son-in-law, Juanita Bennett of the home and Betty Lane and husband, Kenneth, of Pinnacle; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Bill Bennett and wife, Polly, of Pinnacle, Bobby Bennett and wife, Tootsie, of Pinnacle and Don Bennett of the home; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bennett was also preceded in death by her two brothers, A.L. "Buck" Merritt and Pete Merritt. Published in Winston-Salem Journal on September 17, 2003 (edited)
