Frank was the son of James Thoma and Flora Whipple. On 31 March 1925 he married Elsie "Marie" Cresswell. They had 5 children James Benjamin, Franklin Lewis, Ralph Leland, Florann Marilyn and Joyce Maureen. As of this writing, the three boys are deceased. The evening of his death he had a mild heart attack which was followed a few hours later with a massive heart attack which took his life.
