Funeral services for James Shaver age 83 of Conroe, TX were held Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with Bro. Vince Yearwood officiating. Interment followed at the Whitehead Cemetery in Grapeland.
Mr. Shaver passed away on May 11, 2005 in Conroe. He was born on January 3, 1922 in Grapeland. From 1957 to 1982 he was a Warehouse Supervisor for Chicago Bridge and Iron and also served as an Auxiliary Police Officer with the Conroe Police Department for many years. He served with distinction during World War II, where he was a member of Troop D, 112th Calvary, United States Army. He served in the South Pacific where he saw action in New Guinea, Northern Solomons, the Philippines, and Luten. His decorations included the Combat Infantryman badge, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, 4 Over-seas Service Bars, and the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alta (Tince) Doris Shaver; parents, Jim and Wilma Shaver; brothers Ivan, Darrell, Harrell and Wayland Shaver; and grandson, Joshua Shaver.
Hi is survived by his children, Sherry Calvit and husband, Charles, James S. Shaver and wife Shirley, Johnny Shaver and wife, Marti; sister, Vivian Story; grandchildren, Church Calvit and wife, Brenda, Stacia Boudreux and husband, Brice, Jeff Calvit and wife, Kelly, Jody Shaver and wife, Jennifer, Leslie Ballman and husband, Chris, Amanda Binch and husband, Ray, Rebecca Lawrence and husband, Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Jeffery, Crystal, Brice, Chase, Caleb, Kailyn, Sarah, Kyle, Brandon, Samantha, Donovan, Sierra, Tyler Wade; special friend, Robert McClure; bowling team; dance club; and many other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Lighthouse Hospice for all of their support.
