"Kentucky Births and Christenings, 1839-1960," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FWJZ-1X4 : 10 March 2018), Helena Duck in entry for William E. R. Compton, 15 Jan 1857; citing Pulaski, Kentucky, reference yr 1857 p 9; FHL microfilm 216,838.

William Erasmus Dorvin Compton was born to John Riley Compton and Helen Martha Duck. It appears he was named after papa Johns' brother Erasmus Dorwin Compton. I don't know much about my great grandfather as nobody ever spoke of him growing up. He died before I was born. What I do know of him is what I've read. He moved from Somerset, Kentucky as a young married man to get away from all the "drinkin, cussin, and sinnin" going on in the area to Jackson, Missouri, to Oakley, Kansas, to Blackwell, Oklahoma. It appears nobody in the family followed him, nor did they keep in touch. In the 1870 census it shows he's a farm laborer along with brother Christopher. In 1880 he's farming his uncle's land in Jackson, Missouri. In 1900, he's moved his wife Margaret to Oakley, Kansas and he's a farmer there. Probably the only way he knows how to make a living, and here they have a daughter, Edna. It apparently didn't work well for him there. In 1910, he has moved his family, now including Merle and Daisy to Reno, Oklahoma and he's taken up farming here as well. By 1920, he's a widow and moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma and he's a laborer in a smelter. He's 50 and only son Merle, now 15 is living with him. Edna's grown and married to Martin Ebert. Daisy moved in with sister Edna after sister Edna married. Mother Margaret has died and Erasmus dies a few years later while son Merle is away in the Army and inherits the home. Edna and Daisy inherit 2 small homes side by side just a short distance away, which are now gone and a Free Will Baptist Church sits on the land.

Daisy and Edna at some point after Edna's marriage, had a falling out, never to speak again. Daisy married (apparently) 4 times.
