Sacred to the Memory of MICAH VAIL and MARY his consort who both departed this life June 8 AD 1777 aged £8 and ££ years. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. The oldest stone in town, badly worn. The ages looked like British pound signs. The Hist. of Danby says he was b. 1730 so he was about age 47 or 48, so the unusual numbers were probably 4's. Friends leave this Stone and look above the Skies, The dust lies here but, Vertue never dies.

She was the daughter of Edward Briggs & Hannah Howland of Dutchess Co., NY. and a sister of Deborah Briggs who married Pelatiah Soper, JR.
