Funeral services for Mildred Marcelle (Whan) Newhouser, 83 of Ordway will will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15 at the First Christian Church in Ordway with Rev. Valerie Driscoll officiating. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Ordway. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 14 at the Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home. She died July 11, 2003.
Mrs. Newhouser was born March 2, 1920 in Lineville, Iowa to James Harvey Whan and Dalice Mary (Haner) Whan. She lived almost all of her life in Crowley County, graduating from Crowley High School. She worked for Dr. H.W. Clapp for 20 years. She was active in the First Christian Church of Ordway and received the Stewardship Award from the church in 1989. She was also active in the Crowley County Council of Churches and PEO Chapter AT. She was a member of the Crowley County Heritage Society and Eastern Star. She and her husband Clifford were named Crowley County Citizens of the Year in 1999.
Mrs. Newhouser was married to Norman (Ted) Cline, who preceded her in death. On May 29, 1966 she married Clifford Newhouser.
She is survived by her husband Clifford of Ordway; son William (Rosetta) Cline of Kokomo, Ind.; daughters Judith (Terry) Checchi of Lake Geneva, Wisc., Janice (Larry) Faubion of Colorado Springs; step-daughter Linda (Bob) Morgan of Colorado Springs; sister Marjorie (George) Drescher of Sun City, Calif.; sister-in-law Jean Apker of Ordway; nephews Mike (Lynne) Apker of Ordway and Larry and Chuck Drescher of California; 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Gary Cline. Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Ordway or to the Crowley County Heritage Center in Crowley. Arrangements are by the Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home of Rocky Ford.
