Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Mitchell Sr., 69 of Hornbeck were held Saturday, October 4th at 10:00 A.M. at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Hornbeck, Louisiana the Rev. Clayton Crosby and Rev. Melton Mitchell officiated. The burial followed in the Prewitt Chapel Cemetery in Hornbeck, Louisiana.
Mr. Mitchell passed away Thursday, October 2nd at his home in Hornbeck, Louisiana. He was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and served as deacon and music director for many years. Mr. Mitchell was a life long resident of Vernon Parish. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his son: Gary Wayne Mitchell; parents Haywood & Mable Mitchell; brothers and sisters Harvey Mitchell, Delenith Monk, Henry "JR" Mitchell, Johnnie Spears, Stanton Mitchell, Harold Mitchell, Lois Yates and Hoy Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of forty nine years Voorhies Graham Mitchell; son Jerry W. "Brother" (wife Cindy) Mitchell of Hornbeck, Louisiana; daughter Diane Mitchell Watson of Hornbeck, Louisiana; sister Judie West of Anacoco, Louisiana; grandchildren Sarah (husband Johnny) Hall, Trent Watson, Cynthia Diane Mitchell and Betty Voorhies Mitchell.
He was the son of Henry Haywood Mitchell and Susie Mabel (Mae) Tynes
