John Rigdon Stratton was born July 11th, 1826 at Mansfield, Ohio. Died April 3rd, 1904 at his residence near Stockton, Missouri. Age 77 years, 8 months and 22 days.

At the breaking out of the Civil War he went to Stark County, Illinois and enlisted in the 52nd Light Artillery, Illinois. At the close of the war he was honorably discharged. 21 years ago he came to Cedar County Missouri and engaged in stock raising and farming on the place where he died.

In 1890 he was married to Miss Dollie Holmes of this union were born 2 children, a girl and a boy. Emma May and Dewey Rigdon. He leaves wife and the children to mourn his death.

While Mr. Stratton made no religious pretentions, he was always an honorable, loyal, law abiding citizen, his honesty and integrity not being questioned, and was always ready to help the needy and poor.

He was one of a family of 15 children and the oldest of these surviving him are a brother, James L. Stratton and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Malcolm and Rachel Chamberlain.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walter Ross and the remains were buried in the Gum Springs cemetery.
