L. Ronald "Pap" Ney, age 72, of Columbia, died peacefully at home Tuesday, October 7, 2008. Born in Marietta, he was the son of the late Lloyd R. Ney and the late Lillian Bowers Poe.

Pap was the husband of Mildred M. Ortlieb Ney; they were married October 8, 1955. He worked for 32 years until his retirement from the former AMP Inc., Lancaster County, where he was a supervisor in the Tool and Die Department. Pap was a former BSA Scout Leader and Hempfield Youth Association baseball coach. He was a life member of the West Hempfield Fire and Rescue Company, Station 76, Silver Spring. He was a member of the AMP "Nimrods" hunting and fishing club, the North-South Skirmish Association, the NRA, and the North American Hunter Association. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. Pap enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his 6 children: Tim S. husband of Donna M. Ney of Lancaster; Mike D. husband of Doris M. Ney of Columbia; Patti A. wife of Chris Siltzer of Columbia; David Paul husband of Denise L. Ney of Mount Joy; Mark R. husband of Julianne Ney of Kissimmee, FL; Kevin A. husband of Margie A. Ney of Columbia, his 19 grandchildren, and his 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Robert Sr. husband of Dottie Ney of Washington Boro; Edward Ney of Columbia; Rudy husband of Harriett Ney of Mount Joy; 3 sisters: Alverta wife of Gene Kelaher of Dallastown; Ellen Bowers of Elizabethtown; Brenda wife of George Buchanan of Ephrata, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son: James Ronald Ney.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Maytown Union Cemetery.
