Member of 1st Minnesota at Gettysburg. Eighteen year old Oscar Woodward enlisted on May 24, 1861. At Gettysburg on July 2, 1863, before their famous charge, the regiment was posted in front of a battery of artillery. As they waited for the rebels to advance, a shell passed through the ranks of Company I. The cannonball tore off the foot of George Milliken and killed Oscar outright.
Today he is buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery, Section C, Grave 8 in the Minnesota area.
