Clarence Edward Ables, 83, died Thursday, July 26, 2007. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. today at Mortimer Funeral Home in Belzoni with burial at the Caile Cemetery in Caile, Mississippi. Rev. Clarence Tilghman will officiate. Mortimer Funeral Home in Belzoni is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Ables, a long-time resident of the Mississippi Delta, moved with his wife to Brandon 3 years ago to be near their children. He retired from USDA at Stoneville, Ms in 1989, and was a member of NARFE. He had served in the European theater in WWII as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.

He was a lifetime member of the DAV, VFW and the American Legion and a member of "All Airborne". He had been a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Ables was born in Silver City, Mississippi, on February 20, 1924, to Oscar A. and Ruth Brown Ables.

His survivors include his wife of 61 years, Maxine Helms Ables; daughter, Carolyn Ables McCrary; sons, Terry Ables, Jackie Ables and his wife, Brenda, all of Brandon, Larry Ables and his wife, Irene, of Woodlands,Texas; granddaughters, Summer Ables of Brandon, Monica McCrary Davis and her husband, Jamie, of Brandon, Stacey Ables Galo and her husband, Zeke, of Houston, Texas, and Jessica Ables McAlister of Florence, Ky.; grandsons, Christopher Ables of Woodlands, Texas, and Jackie Ables II of Louisville, Ky.; great-grandson, Parker Ables Davis of Brandon; great-granddaughters, Dekota Madison Galo of Houston, Texas, Kaitlin Ann Ables of Louisville, Ky., Jayden Ashley McAlister and Ryleigh Parker McAlister both of Florence, Ky.; sisters, Ruby N. Smith of Isola and Dolly Weatherly of Vineland, Ala.; brothers Pat Ables and his wife, Allie, Henry Ables and his wife, Betty, all of Isola.

He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and two older brothers, David and James Ables.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Mississippi Diabetes Association or Hospice Ministries.
