Samuel came to Cherokee County with his parents when he was a boy of six. He was a graduate of the Pittsburg School of Mining in Pittsburg, Kansas. He worked as an engineer in the local coal mines as well as homesteading 60 acres in Ross Township.
Samuel and Naomi had six children. The two not linked to this memorial are:
1. Wayne Hardin Cunningham (1908-1970), married Minnie Ogborn (1911- ), resided Contra Costa County, California
2. Maurice Cunningham (1914-1916), died age two, Scammon, Cherokee, Kansas.
Samuel and Naomi are my paternal grand parents. My father was born on their homestead.
