Frank O. Boerner, 87, a resident of Leavenworth for the past 59 years, died Thursday afternoon, June 29, 2000 in the Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1912 to Anton and Marie (Walkemeyer) Boerner at Higgins, TX. The family moved to Kansas and later to Oklahoma, and in Kansas Frank received his early education.

He later worked the farms of Kansas and in 1941, he came west, moving to Leavenworth. He was employed by the Charles A. Wright Lumber Mill on Peshastin Creek.

On Jan. 24, 1942, he married Helen Hallgren at Loomis, NE. They made their home in Leavenworth and they both were employed by C.A. Wright Lumber Mill.

On Aug. 7, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in the European Theatre.

Following his honorable discharge on Dec. 17, 1945, he returned to Leavenworth, where he was employed by Stemm Brothers. In 1947, he worked for Schmitten Lumber Co., and later the Peshastin Lumber and Box as a logger. From 1962 until 1965, he was employed by Morrison-Knutson Construction Company as an oiler and welder. Frank returned to the woods, working for Peshastin Forest Products until his retirement in 1975.

Frank loved the outdoors whether it was camping, fishing or hunting. He loved establishing and renewing adventures and the story-telling that was associated with the outdoor activities.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and the VFW in Cashmere.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of the family home; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Gloria Boerner of East Wenatchee; three grandchildren, Bill Boerner, Ronald A. Boerner and Jeffrey Brincefield; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Sarah, Tyler and Shantel; two sisters, Josephine Williams of Burns, OR and Margaret Kontour of Strasburg, CO; also several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson, one sister and one brother.

A graveside Inurnment Service of Commemoration will be held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, July 7, 2000 at the gravesite in the Mt. View Cemetery with Pastor Dan Johnson officiating.

Those who wish may make a memorial in his name to the charity of one's choice.
