Mattie, also affectionately known as "Ma", lived on the Gerron family farm near Langston, AL. She and her husband, Wallace, acquired the farm and in the Gerron genealogy book, Jewel Gerron stated that Mattie and Wallace "...graciously received and kept the Gerron descendants during their visits to the Gerron home and farm". She loved to keep "Garrett" snuff in her lower lip and stirred it with tree twigs. Mattie was a tiny lady and had very long hair which she keep rolled in a bun on the back of her head. She died at age 76 in a TB hospital near McMinnville, TN, where she had been a patient with her husband. They had one child, Nora Belle, and helped raise a granddaughter, Lois Woosley.
