Rick suffered from irregular heart problems that occurred in the 4th quarter when he as playing for Fulton Red Raiders varsity football @ North Syracuse Northmen on Friday night, Oct. 14th 1977 and eventually died at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton, NY on Oct. 15th.

Rick wore Fulton Red Raiders jersey #67 which was retired in a ceremony held on Saturday November 5th, 1977 before the Fulton vs Oswego game in honor of Rick.

He played two positions on Fulton's G. Ray Bodley High School - Red Raiders football team as Offensive Guard and Defensive Linebacker.

That Saturday the day he died, a letter arrived for Ricky Luciano which he never got to open. It was from Oklahoma State University informing him that he had been accepted for enrollment at the school next fall.

Rick had played Soccer, Baseball, Lacrosse and Football at G. Ray Bodley H.S.

Ricky Paul Luciano, 16, of 306 East 12th Street Fulton, died last night at A. L. Lee Memorial Hospital. Born in Buffalo, he was a resident of Fulton most of his life. He was a senior at G. Ray Bodley High School and played varsity football. He was on the soccer team in his freshmen year. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Hanlon of Fulton, his father, Louis A. Luciano of Fulton, a sister Mrs. Gary (Patricia) Vanderhaden of Fulton, a brother Louis J. Luciano of Syracuse, a half sister Elizabeth Hanlon, a half brother Donald Hanlon, a step sister Kathy Hanlon, step brother James Hanlon, a paternal grandfather John Luciano of Fulton and a maternal grandmother Mrs. Alice Hurlburt of Racine, Wisconsin. Services are at 9 a.m. at the Young and Son Funeral Home and at 9:30 at the Church of Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Fulton. Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday.
