Mrs. E. D. Bell Dies; Aged 77
Mother of Leading Candidate for Governor
Mrs. Elizabeth Douglass Bell, 77 years of age, died Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the Delaware hotel after an illness of about two months. Funeral services were announced for 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at St. Andrew's Episcopal church with interment at the new cemetery.
Mrs. Bell has been a resident of Fort Worth for about twelve years, having come here from Hamilton, Hamilton county. She is survived by her son Judge C. K. Bell of this city, and a daughter [sister], Mrs. L. J. Rowland of Chattanooga, Tenn., who was present at the bedside at the time of her death. Her son-in-law, --S. J. Shepherd of Pawnee, O. T., was here with his two children until a few days ago, and had only returned to Pawnee on account of the fact that it was thought that Mrs. Bell was improving.
It was announced the members of the Woman's Wednesday club, would attend the funeral in a body, meeting at the club rooms at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Bell was the widow of Colonel [Dr. William S.] Bell, who had both legs shot off at Island No. 10, dying on the battlefield a few hours later. Mrs. Bell survived by one day the fifty-fourth anniversary of her husband's death, which occurred March 12, 1862.
Her surviving son, Judge C. K. Bell of this city, is a leading candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor.
